      Our Family Group

Ysgol Bryn Gwalia is committed to maintaining strong links with parents, carers and the local community so that we can learn together and provide the best possible opportunities for our children. We do this by having an active Ysgol Bryn Gwalia Parental Links Group run by Mrs J. Wyatt. The group has different sessions that are run to help support children attending our school. The sessions are fun, free and informal, not only do they support children in our school but also supports parents and creates strong links between home and school.

Our Chatterbox group helps children in the Foundation Phase. This entails looking at the main areas of learning and during this time you are given the opportunity to bring your children out of class to experience the different sessions with their parents. It is a fun and lively group with lots of learning opportunities and greater understanding of what goes on in the foundation phase and how you can support it at home.

Other courses have been "Helping Your Child Read in the Foundation Phase". This was an accredited course run by a lecturer from Deeside College. It was a fun and friendly six weeks with lots of understanding of what can be done at home to help your child read.

As well as these courses, the group meets weekly to have other sessions including; a fab session on the cookery bus making pizzas and salads, Nordic walking, and making tea light holders to be sold at the Christmas Fayre. We have also had opportunities to meet with educational psychologists, the school nurse, CAMHS staff, Flintshire's literacy advisor and PC Mark Jones who is our Community Support Officer. Sessions with PC Jones are popular and extremely interesting which gives parents a closer understanding of internet safety and how we at Ysgol Bryn Gwalia strive to keep our children safe.

The Parental Links Group is very much part of Ysgol Bryn Gwalia. Children like the idea that their parents are in school and that parents get to see the school working and understand how they can help their children. Everyone is welcome.

Topics coming soon are; Literacy and creative play, planning an event to raise money for Ysgol Bryn Gwalia, forest schools, ICT and first aid.
